Rajiv K Phull Palampur, January 7 Corporate guru Mehra want HP to prosper
CORPORATE GURU Dr Madhav Mehra, also known as quality king, a futuristic thinker and a rare management visionary, wants to turn Himachal Pradesh into the most prosperous state of the country. Mehra, who belongs to Palampur and is presently on boards of numerous corporations and committees around the world, told Hindustan Times here today that he had special plans for his hometown. “Lifestyle of Gaddi tribe, living in Dhauladhar ranges not improved even after 50 years,” he said. Mehra has already established a charitable trust and is now in the process of setting up an international institute of management and governance in Palampur. He has set up a convention centre on 35000 sq.ft. of land in Palampur. Mehra , who left Palampur 40 years ago, has exemplary track record. Impressed by Gandhi’s candour and transparency, he got through the very last civil services exam held in London and joined the Ministry of Railway. He established the Faculty of Management at the Railways Staff College, Baroda. After taking voluntary retirement from Railways in 1988, he started training individuals and organizations to help them achieve quality goals. His unique contribution is the powerful coalition of reformers that he has been able to create worldwide in fields of quality management, social environment and polities for constructive relations between government business and civil society. Mehra has also developed a new concept called TEEM (Total Eco Effective Management) as distinctive from TQM (Total Quality Management ). The concept forces us to look at the long term needs of the society. Mehra, who reportedly pioneered India’s quality movement after quitting government job in 1988, is spear heading another movement globally in bringing transparency, accountability, integrity, equality and social responsibilities in both corporate and public governance as president of World Council for Corporate Governance. An inveterate traveler , Mehra aims at transforming future of individuals and organizations. Do you ever get tired? He replies, “I have turned my vocation into a vacation as work excites me.
